Joao Gomes has been a roaring success since he signed for Wolves in January – and the midfielder now want to see two of his former teammates follow him to Molineux.
Gomes arrived at the start of the year in a £15 million deal from Flamengo, with fans absolutely delighted when it finally went through.
That was because Lyon came in with a better offer and there was a desire on the part of Flamengo to sell to the highest bidder. But Gomes always knew where he wanted to go, and it was thanks to his stance he is a Wolves player today.
Gomes has been developing well in recent months and is now a regular in the side – and that £15 million transfer fee is already looking like superb business.
The 22-year-old now says he wants to see a couple of his former teammates at Flamengo make the same move he did…
Joao Gomes names two players from Flamengo he wants Wolves to sign

Gomes has given an interview with ESPN Brasil, and picked out a couple of players he would love to see follow him to Wolves, when asked by the publication.
He said: “I think I would choose two. One would be Pedro and the other (Giorgian) De Arrascaeta. Those guys are geniuses. And I already know them, for me I think it would be easier for us to fit in here and continue this good work that is being developed.”
Pedro is a 26-year-old striker from Brazil who has enjoyed a tremendous 2023, scoring 35 goals across 60 appearances this calendar year. His overall record for the club stands at 102 goals and 23 assists in 215 games.
De Arrascaeta, 29, is a Uruguay international who joined the club in 2019 from Cruzeiro. He’s an attacking midfielder who has scored 11 goals and made 12 assists in 53 appearances in 2023.
Let’s see if Wolves go shopping
Gomes has only answered a question he was asked, so there may not be any interest in these players from the club.
But one wonders if the club will just take a look at these two and watch clips of them in action.
Certainly, the numbers are very impressive – especially from striker Pedro.
It has been reported that Gary O’Neil would like to sign a new striker in January so that he can get Matheus Cunha into more of a free role.
It may ‘only’ be the Brazilian league but 35 goals (across all competitions) so far in 2023 is undoubtedly impressive from Pedro. Perhaps O’Neil will have a word with Gomes to try and get the lowdown.
