Diego Costa could now be set for a very interesting next move after leaving Wolves

Diego Costa has been linked with a new club, after leaving Wolves at the end of last season.

Costa departed Molineux a month ago, after coming to the end of the deal he signed last September.

Wolves moved for Costa, after watching Sasa Kalajdzic suffer an ACL injury on his debut, letting Fabio Silva leave on loan and seeing Raul Jimenez struggling with his fitness.

It was a fairly sluggish start for Costa at Wolves.

It was very clear that he had not played for a while.

But in the last few months of 2022/23, Costa came good for Wolves.

Julen Lopetegui made him a regular starter – and that proved to be an inspired move.

Wolves were much more competitive with the snarling Costa leading the line, and it allowed Matheus Cunha to play better, too.

Despite his superb contributions at the end, it was decided that Costa would move on.

Many have wondered what is next for Costa. Well, there is now some speculation about the former Chelsea man.

Diego Costa could be set for Brazil return and new safety mission with Vasco da Gama

MARCA reported yesterday that Vasco da Gama want to sign free agent Costa.

The 34-year-old apparently has offers from Europe and Saudi Arabia. But he is said to want to now return to Brazil.

Costa may now be Spain international of course, but he was born in Lagarto, Brazil, and grew up in the South American nation. He is a supporter of Palmeiras.

MARCA say that there are negotiations at the moment, and that he could be registered by August 25.

At the moment, Vasco da Gama sit rock bottom of the Brazilian Serie A. They have just nine points from their first 16 games and are seven points from safety.

His former club Atletico Mineiro sit 13th, while Botafogo, who are managed by former Wolves head coach Bruno Lage and have former Wolves defender Fernando Marcal, are top.

It would be good to see Diego Costa back playing again

It will be fascinating if Costa goes to Vasco da Gama who are clearly struggling at the moment.

We have seen what kind of impact Costa can have on a struggling team though.

Who knows where Wolves might be right now had it not been for him at the end of 2022/23.

He undoubtedly made some really big contributions for Wolves and by many accounts, he was really good for the dressing room while he was at the club. It was suggested that Lopetegui had actually wanted to keep the veteran.

Wanderers fans think very highly of him, and hopefully if he does sign for Vasco then he can help to get them safe.
