Charlie Nicholas thinks Wolves target Calvin Bassey will cost at least £25 million this summer

Charlie Nicholas believes Rangers defender and reported Wolves target Calvin Bassey could set other clubs back £25 million this summer.

The 22-year-old has been in fantastic form for the Scottish giants in recent months.

He made plenty of headlines last week for putting in a colossal performance against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League final.

He then followed that up with another brilliant display against Hearts in the Scottish Cup final.

Bassey’s stock has certainly soared lately.

And Nicholas reckons Rangers could rake in £25 million for the player this summer, which would help them rebuild.

He wrote in his Scottish Express column: “I can see Rangers getting £25 million if they sell Calvin Bassey to fund their summer rebuild.

“You can see why Steven Gerrard at Aston Villa are so keen to get him but there will be a string of top clubs looking at him.

“I think the minimum value would be in the £25 million bracket.”

And why does Nicholas believe he could be worth that much?

“The reason why I put him in that range is because he is already a better player than Tyrone Mings,” he added.

“He was one that was built up and has ended up becoming an England international but I look at Bassey and I think there is more.”

Wolves are supposedly one of a few clubs showing interest in Bassey according to the Daily Record.

Aston Villa, Brentford and Fulham are also apparently keen.

Nicholas has been so impressed with Bassey, that he also called him the best young player in Scotland.

Calvin Bassey will be difficult for Wolves to sign, as Nicholas says defender is worth £25 million minimum

This is a real rave review from Nicholas, who also went on to say that he would be ‘amazed’ if Bassey stayed at Rangers beyond the summer.

It could be very difficult for Wolves to land him in the next window.

He is clearly hot property after a brilliant season.

It’s difficult to see Wolves splashing £25 million on a defender, as much as many fans would love to see it.

He would make a great replacement for Romain Saiss. But Bruno Lage does also have Toti Gomes who is looking very promising.
