Wolves are reportedly interested in signing Calvin Bassey from Rangers this summer.
According to a report from the Daily Record, several English clubs are keen on the 22-year-old who has enjoyed an impressive campaign this season.
Bassey has made a whopping 50 appearances across all competitions, and has featured as a left-sided centre-back and also a left-back.
Bassey caught the eye recently when he put in a dominant display for Rangers in the Europa League final against Eintracht Frankfurt.
The youngster was arguably Rangers’ best player in Seville. He was very unlucky to wind up on the losing side.
But Bassey quickly put the disappointment behind him, and was named man-of-the-match in Saturday’s Scottish Cup final against Hearts.
The Daily Record gave him an 8/10 for his display, and described him as ‘immense’ against the Jambos.
Bassey’s emergence has resulted in interest from several clubs.
As well as Wolves, Aston Villa, Fulham and Brentford are all keen. And it’s stated that two unnamed Serie A clubs are also keen.
Villa boss Steven Gerrard, of course, knows Bassey well from his time at Ibrox.
Calvin Bassey would be a great addition for Wolves
Bassey looks to be a really promising defender.
He’s physically very strong, and is good at playing the ball out from the back.
He is also versatile, capable of playing in the middle and out wide, which only adds to his appeal.
Wolves do have Toti Gomes and Max Kilman as left-footed options.
But both Romain Saiss and Fernando Marcal are leaving the club and there could well be room in the squad for someone like Bassey.
That all said, it would be difficult for Wolves to sign two-cap Nigeria international Bassey.
The competition to get him is strong, and Giovanni van Bronckhorst has also said (Herald) he wants to work with the player for as along as possible.
