Marseille vs Lille may well have been a game of interest to some Wolves supporters last night.
The Ligue 1 clash featured a number of players that have been linked with a move to Molineux over the past weeks and months.
It seems Wolves won’t be having a busy January.
But anything can happen in football. And Wolves recruitment officials could pull something out of the bag later in the month.
Bruno Lage would certainly like to strengthen.
Two players many supporters would love to see join Wolves are Sven Botman and Renato Sanches.
They lined up for Lille. And Boubacar Kamara and Duje Caleta-Car – whom Wolves supposedly still have interest in – featured for Marseille.
The game ended 1-1, and it was Botman who was the pick of the Wolves-linked bunch.
GFFN gave him 9/10, and said: “Excellent defensively throughout and put Lille ahead as he placed a free header in the corner early on. He was imperious as Lille defended for an hour with ten men; unbeatable in the air and made several key interventions facing his own goal.”
He made a staggering 12 clearances in the match, and also opened the scoring for the visitors with a header.
The man who delivered the corner for him was Renato Sanches, who was given a 7/10 by GFFN. On him, they said: “He hasn’t been quite as effective on the right as he has been in the middle this season. But his direct style and positive play unsettled Luan Peres and created chances for Lille in the first half.
“One cleverly lofted cross for Yilmaz should have brought another assist after his corner set up the opener. Faded a little after the break but continued to work hard.”
The ‘wayward’ Caleta-Car struggled, and got a pretty alarming 3/10 rating, while Kamara was given a 5/10.
Sven Botman looking like one that may have gotten away for Wolves
It was interesting to see four players who have been linked with Wolves in the not-too-distant past all featuring in one game.
Clearly Botman, 22, is a player with huge potential.
He won’t be going anywhere this month with Olivier Letang recently saying he’ll stay until the end of the season.
He might well end up being one that got away for Wolves (via GFFN).
Although having said that, Toti Gomes’ debut on Saturday was very promising indeed. It could be that the 23-year-old becomes the extra option Lage has been seeking.
