When Diego Costa lost his head with senseless red card for Wolves

Diego Costa has been back in the headlines for a heated moment in a charity game between Chelsea and Liverpool legends; however, it does bring back memories of a fiery situation when he played for Wolves.

Costa’s move to Wolves in 2022 did not pan out as all would have hoped, but the player still ended up being a fan favourite.

The Spanish international enjoyed a successful goalscoring stint at Chelsea but could not replicate that success when he joined the Old Gold.

The forward played 25 times for the Wanderers and scored just one goal, despite being on a massive £100,000 per week wage.

Diego Costa is known to have a hot streak, and over the weekend he clashed with Martin Skrtel at Stamford Bridge, and suddenly memories of his head-loss moment for Wolves started to flood in.

Diego Costa got sent off for Wolves in 1-1 draw against Brentford

When Wolves signed Diego Costa, they had signed a forward with a temper, and that is exactly what they got.

The former Chelsea man has a record at Wolves no striker would want to have; he has the same number of goals as red cards at the club.

His sole goal for the Wanderers came in a 2-0 win against Brentford back in 2022/2023.

However, in the reverse fixture earlier in the season, there was a classic Diego Costa moment.

As the Wolves man was battling with Ben Mee, he seemingly lost his head and decided to deliver a headbutt to the opposition defender.

VAR intervened, and the player was sent off in the closing minutes of the match.

Diego Costa apologised to his teammates after the game, with interim head coach Steve Davis saying, “He’s apologised. When emotions are high it is difficult to discuss things, but we’ll have a conversation with him next week.”

While the encounter with Martin Skrtel during the Chelsea Legends vs Liverpool Legends game brought back memories, the pair seemed to laugh off the incident based on Costa’s Instagram story.

Wolves could use someone with Diego Costa’s personality

While Wolves will not want to have a player who will get sent off for a moment like Costa, they could do with someone with his personality.

The two-time Premier League champion is a determined and passionate player and he will fight for every ball.

While he did not score as much as he would have liked at Molineux, his work rate could not be questioned.

During his time at the club, Costa received praise from multiple dressing room members. Pablo Sarabia hailed his impact, and then-manager Julen Lopetegui wanted Costa to stay longer.
