Yerson Mosquera may hope for loan move in January

Wolves beat Leeds United 1-0 in the Carabao Cup last night to advance to the fourth round – but there was, again, no minutes for Yerson Mosquera.

Wanderers progressed courtesy of a great strike from substitute Boubacar Traore.

It wasn’t the greatest of performances from Wolves.

But they managed to get the job done, after sustaining some strong pressure from Leeds at times in the game.

Steve Davis rung the changes in his penultimate game before Julen Lopetegui comes in.

He handed first starts of the season to Joe Hodge and Connor Ronan in midfield.

But one man who did not feature was Mosquera.

The young centre-back was an unused substitute last night, with Nathan Collins and Maximilian Kilman once again starting in the backline.

Some had hoped to see £4.5 million ace Mosquera in action against the Whites.

So far, he has made just one appearance for the club since coming in as the first signing of the Bruno Lage era.

He lasted just 10 minutes into his debut against Tottenham Hotspur in last season’s Carabao Cup, suffering a bad hamstring injury.

That remains his last and only appearance in Wolves colours.

It was interesting that Davis overlooked him last night. It did feel like a good opportunity for Mosquera to finally come into the team. Especially since Collins and Kilman have been practically ever-presents.

The interim manager has obviously shown great faith in a number of youngsters since he took over from Lage.

But Mosquera still hasn’t had a chance, and he could be forgiven for perhaps thinking about asking for a loan move in January.

Yerson Mosquera must be wondering where the minutes will come from

Mosquera must be absolutely itching to play football, having lost so much of last season.

The plan had actually been to send Mosquera out on loan at the end of the summer transfer window.

But the collapse of the Craig Dawson deal meant Wolves kept hold of him. French club Troyes were supposedly in talks over a deal for the Colombian.

But the faith just seemingly hasn’t quite been there.

Frustratingly for him, he actually got stripped to come on against Brighton at the weekend. But the plan was then changed, and he sat back down.

Mosquera is a young player with big potential.

And he really needs to be getting more minutes if he is to develop in the way Wolves hope. It would be no surprise if he enquired about the potential for a loan in January.
