Wolves managed to secure a brilliant win against Spurs thanks to last-minute goals from Pablo Sarabia and Mario Lemina.
Gary O’Neil’s side were behind for the majority of the game at the Molineux after Brennan Johnson’s opener after three minutes.
However, Wolves never gave up and chased down the win until the final seconds of the game despite a 91st-minute equaliser.
What Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou said
The Spurs manager was obviously less than happy after the game. It was the first time he had experienced back-to-back defeats at the helm since taking charge in the summer.
The visitors were forced to play a much-rotated side after their defeat to Chelsea on Monday night which didn’t help their cause.
However, Postecoglou insists that the changed backline had a good game and limited Wolves’ chances throughout.
“Both of them and Emerson [Royal], and even for guys like Brennan [Johnson] and Pierre [Højbjerg], who haven’t really started many games because we’ve had a pretty settled line-up,” he told football.london
“Particularly those two guys coming in [Dier and Davies], I thought their commitment, their endeavour to play our way was there for the whole game. They held out in the end. I think you could see they were feeling towards the end but they didn’t let their performance levels drop.
“For the most part, Wolves didn’t have many really big chances, I think Vic [Vicario] had one or two saves to make but obviously at the end there, I think the first goal was a really good goal and we probably ran out of steam in the last few minutes. Wolves, particularly with the crowd behind them, were able to lift themselves.”
Wolves could have scored four or five

The hosts were by far the dominant team at Molineux.
As soon as Spurs took the lead, Wolves grew into the game and could have levelled the scoreline at multiple times before the stoppage time drama.
Rayan Aït-Nouri and Mario Lemina both had half chances in the first half before Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-Chan both missed golden opportunities in the second period.
Even substitute Saša Kalajdžić who has found a recent knack of coming off the bench to score an important goal missed a glorious chance to level the game before Sarabia’s equaliser.
Even the xG Philosophy on X states (formerly Twitter) that Wolves should have had more than two goals in the fixture with the club accumulating a 2.03 xG during the tie. In comparison, Spurs only had 0.83.
Wolves still need a striker

Despite winning the tie, it is clear Wolves lack a focal point up top.
With chances coming in aplenty, O’Neil’s cannot keep affording to squander these chances or they will be punished.
The defeat to Man United at the start of the season is a key example of this with Wolves dominating the game for its majority.
The January transfer window could not come soon enough, and if reports are to be believed, a new striker may be on its way to Molineux soon.
