Cesar Peixoto is now in place as the new manager at Wolves – and that could see one unfancied player get a new lease of life.
Last week, the club sacked Rob Edwards after Guo Guangchang reportedly lost faith with him towards the end of the 2025/26 season.
The decision would seemingly have been made sooner, but agent Jorge Mendes was tending to other managerial situations.
But Wolves have now acted, and Cesar Peixoto is Edwards’ replacement.
Have Wolves made the right decision appointing Cesar Peixoto? 🤔
A NINTH managerial job since 2019 for Peixoto and first outside of Portugal…
A number of players could really thrive under Peixoto, who did a great job last season at Gil Vicente, guiding them to a sixth-placed finish in the league.
It is also an opportunity for some players to get a clean slate.
And it could be that Fer Lopez now gets a fresh chance to make his move to Wolves work out.
Cesar Peixoto appointment could help Fer Lopez
Fer Lopez’s transfer to Wolves is currently one of the worst made on Fosun’s watch.
He was brought in for around £20 million last summer and after a good pre-season, he struggled to convince Vitor Pereira to play him.

The same then happened under Rob Edwards, and it seemed clear that Lopez had made the move too soon. He particularly struggled with the physicality.
Wolves had taken a gamble anyway, because Lopez hadn’t even played that many games for Celta Vigo’s first-team before signing him.
Lopez left Wolves in January to rejoin Celta on loan, and the move was productive for him. He played 23 times.
There’s been talk of Lopez going back for another loan next season. They certainly want him back.
But not long before Edwards left Wolves, it was reported that Lopez would be reintegrated by Wolves – and perhaps that will still be the case now that Peixoto is here.
Peixoto has tended to set up with a system that uses a sole number 10, and he could use Lopez here.
Peixoto has already spoken about affording players ‘maximum freedom’, and this is something that could absolutely suit Lopez to be his creative self.
And what is actually quite interesting is that Peixoto already follows Lopez on Instagram.
There is no obvious link between the pair since they’ve never been at the same club before, and it’s unclear at what point Peixoto first followed the Spaniard.
Peixoto doesn’t follow any other Wolves players.
So perhaps this is an indicator that Peixoto is already a fan of the player.

But one thing is for sure. It would be fantastic to see Lopez come back into the mix and make a success of his move to Wolves.
Here arrived a lot of hype and plenty of money was spent on him.
There were flashes of quality and hopefully Peixoto will be able to bring it out of him on a more consistent basis.
