Wolves transfer news: Wolves want to keep Nelson Semedo, Julen Lopetegui likes him

Wolves want to keep Nelson Semedo beyond the summer, according to Express & Star journalist Liam Keen.

The Portugal international’s contract at Molineux winding down, and at the moment he stands to leave for free.

But Wolves hold the option to extend the player’s deal by a further two years.

Supposedly, this option is now valid until the end of the month.

Semedo’s future at the club has been in some doubt over the past few months.

His form at the start of the season was very worrying, and it had actually led to reports that Wolves were ready to invest in a new right-back in January.

But he turned things around under Julen Lopetegui, and has been decent on the whole.

But he had a very day at the office against Brighton last weekend, although to be fair pretty much every Wolves player did too.

He was substituted off just before half-time with an injury, and is currently a doubt to face Aston Villa on Saturday.

Some have been wondering if we are seeing Semedo’s final few games in Wolves colours.

But according to Keen, there’s a reasonable chance he will still be a Wolves player next season.

He and Nathan Judah Went through the entire team that started against Brighton and gave opinions on who would still be in the team next season.

On Semedo, Keen said: “Even though there’s definitely concerns over the finances there, I am going to say yes (he stays). The club want to keep him, I think Lopetegui likes him.”

Nelson Semedo is really close to being a brilliant full-back for Wolves

Semedo continues to divide opinion at Wolves.

The £29 million ace is a top player on his day. But he arguably doesn’t have these days often enough.

His defending has really improved compared to when he first arrived in England. But every now and then there will be a lapse in concentration.

The feeling is that the club are going to exercise their option to extend his contract and it would just about be the right decision.

At least he then likely wouldn’t be leaving the club for free.
