Wolves to face Alaves and Besiktas in pre-season

Wolves have announced they will be facing Deportivo Alaves and Besiktas in their pre-season in Alicante next month.

Both matches will take place at the Camilo Cano Stadium, home of Spanish fourth division side CF Lu Nucia.

Wolves will play Alaves, who have just been relegated from La Liga and into the second tier, on July 20. They will then take on Besiktas three days later in the first meeting between the sides since the 2019/20 Europa League.

Diogo Jota hit a hat-trick in a 4-0 win over them at Molineux, and Willy Boly scored a last-minute winner at Vodafone Park.

Interestingly, Wolves taking on Besiktas will mean an instant reunion with Romain Saiss, who has joined the club on a free transfer after leaving Molineux.

The Morocco international departed the club this summer after failing to reach an agreement to extend.

Both friendlies will be broadcast live on Wolves TV and Facebook, as was the case last year.

It’s likely further games will be announced in due course.

Originally, Wolves had been set to have their pre-season in the US until the cancellation of the Ohio Cup. That left the club unable to schedule enough separate fixtures.

A big pre-season for Wolves, as Lage seeks to build on 10th

It is good to hear that Wolves finally have some pre-season opponents, and hopefully more games will soon be arranged.

It’s a big pre-season for Lage and the players, after the sorry end to 2021/22.

It will be important for the manager to set the tone, so that everyone goes into the new campaign bang at it.

The end to 2021/22 was really disappointing and fans are expecting big improvements.

Hopefully, there will be a few new faces taking part in these games.
