Wolves think new signing Joao Gomes is like Manchester United star Casemiro

Wolves believe their newest signing Joao Gomes is somewhat like Manchester United midfielder Casemiro.

This morning, The Athletic have produced a report about the 21-year-old and what fans can expect from a man who has already acquired cult hero status in the eyes of many.

Gomes is already very popular at Molineux for the way his move to Wolves came to fruition.

Lyon tried to sign him after offering more money than Wolves.

But Gomes had apparently given Wanderers his word that he would sign – and he kept to it.

Flamengo were ultimately forced to sell to Wolves, and supporters are excited to see what he can offer.

By many accounts, Gomes is more of a physical midfielder who likes to get the dirty work done. That’s not to say he is lacking in the technical department though.

According to The Athletic, Gomes idolises Sergio Busquets, Casemiro and Ronaldinho.

Apparently, Wolves believe it’s the Manchester United man who is the closest match to Gomes’ style, as he plays more on the front foot than Busquets.

Casemiro has been a revelation for the Red Devils this season.

Eyebrows were raised when the club forked out £70 million for a 30-year-old.

But the star has brought steel and authority to their engine room, and is arguably one of the signings of the season so far in the Premier League.

Wolves fans should be very excited if Joao Gomes is anything like Casemiro

For Gomes to be getting comparisons to Casemiro is definitely an exciting thing.

Casemiro has been one of the top holding midfielders in Europe for many years. He was a major part of Real Madrid’s success over the last decade.

He is one of the best at breaking up play and recycling possession. And as we have been seeing recently for Manchester United, he can chip in with the odd goal.

If Gomes can become anything like Casemiro in the future, then Wolves will be in a very good place.
