Wolves next manager latest: Wolves to open talks with Julen Lopetegui

Wolves will reportedly now open formal talks with Julen Lopetegui following his sacking by Sevilla.

The Spaniard managed his final game last night against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

The German giants ran out 4-1 winners to heap more misery on Sevilla, who’ve had a really poor start to the new season.

After the final whistle, Lopetegui had headed for the dressing room.

But sporting director Monchi escorted the 56-year-old out onto the pitch to lap up an ovation from the Sevilla fans and his players.

Minutes later, Lopetegui confirmed to the media that he would no longer be the club’s manager.

The club then provided official confirmation.

Lopetegui is thought to be one of Wolves’ top choices to succeed Bruno Lage at Molineux.

And talkSPORT are reporting this morning that Wolves will now open formal talks with him over the vacancy.

Lopetegui was on Wolves’ radar years ago, but the club ended up appointing Nuno Espirito Santo.

It remains to be seen if there will be a positive outcome to these talks. Judging by social media, a lot of Wanderers fans would be keen to see the former Spain and Real Madrid boss come in.

Wolves wasting no time as report claims Lopetegui talks will now commence

So Wolves will now speak with Lopetegui and no doubt gauge how he intends to get the club out of trouble and up the Premier League table.

His work at Sevilla and also his spell as Spain manager will surely have impressed Wolves officials. Yes, he’s struggled this term. But he did lose a number of key players in the summer.

It’s now about seeing if he will be the right fit at Molineux.

Given all he has achieved, and the reception he got last night from the Sevilla fans, there is surely a more than reasonable chance he will soon be named as Lage’s successor.
