Wolves defender Nelson Semedo confirms he's out for the rest of the season

Wolves defender Nelson Semedo has confirmed he will miss the remainder of the 2021/22 season as a result of his latest injury.

The Portugal international was forced off in the last Premier League game against Brighton.

Semedo had only just returned to the first-team picture, having suffered a hamstring injury against Arsenal back in February.

He was on the sidelines for around a month, and returned to the matchday squad against Aston Villa.

He didn’t feature for a couple of games, before starting against Burnley on April 24.

While he was out, Jonny Castro Otto deputised on the right and was one of Wolves’ best performers.

It could be that the Spaniard will now move back over the right with Semedo’s season over.

The 28-year-old wrote on Instagram: “Unfortunately I won’t be able to play this season anymore, I just have to support the team in the games that remain and focus on recovery. See you next season.”

Nelson Semedo injury is a blow for Wolves, but Jonny is excellent cover

This is frustrating news, but perhaps not a surprise.

Semedo has enjoyed a great season in 2021/22, and he could be a miss in these final four games.

That said, Jonny was really good when Semedo was out with his first injury.

Hopefully, he can again step up if Lage moves him back over.

There is also potential for Ki-Jana Hoever to come in, with the youngster back fit again after also suffering a hamstring injury in March.

He’ll be hoping for a chance, after Lage publicly questioned him after the defeat to Crystal Palace.
