Wolves star Nelson Semedo is possibly in the best form of his career right now – and he has a golden chance to bounce back from one huge disappointment he had in 2022.
Semedo has been a top performer this term for Gary O’Neil, but he perhaps hasn’t quite gotten the same credit as others.
Most of the talk has been about Wolves’ main front three of Pedro Neto, Hwang Hee-chan and Matheus Cunha.
But, unbeknownst to neutrals, Semedo has been so consistent this term, and it’s been clear to see how much O’Neil rates him given the fact he’s played 2743 minutes so far this term.
On Thursday night, Portugal faced Sweden in a friendly and Semedo’s Wolves form continued – and he is now in a very good position ahead of the upcoming Euro 2024 tournament…
Nelson Semedo is heading the right way for Euro 2024 inclusion with Portugal, after 2022 disappointment

Against Sweden, Semedo was excellent for Portugal.
The 30-year-old was full of energy down the right side, and laid on two assists in the game.
He set up Bruno Fernandes for Portugal’s third goal, collecting a long pass out wide and getting right to the byline before getting his head up and playing the ball through a defender’s legs to the completely unmarked Manchester United star to tap home.
He then collected another ball through in the second half and squared with a perfect driven cross for Goncalo Ramos.
It was a cracking display from Semedo that manager Roberto Martinez simply had to have enjoyed.
This on top of the performances he’s been putting in for Wolves stand him in extremely good stead later this year when Martinez comes to select his Euro 2024 squad
Semedo – whom Wolves signed for £29 million – suffered great disappointment in 2022 when he did not make Fernando Santos’ final squad for Qatar World Cup. He was named in the 55-man preliminary squad, but was cut.
Ultimately, leading up to that tournament Semedo’s form just hadn’t been consistent enough.
But that has not been the case this season, with Semedo shining in most games for Wolves. Indeed, Max Kilman recently said that he was ‘top quality every week’.
So he really does stand to bounce back from the frustrations of missing out on the World Cup squad. If Martinez was selecting his squad tomorrow, you would imagine Semedo would make it in.
It’s now just about trying to maintain this level through until the end of the season, and Wolves fans will back him to do just that.
He’s already said that he is going to give it his all to make it into that squad and actually, that can only be a good thing for Wolves. He’s got that as extra motivation, and surely this will lead to further great performances.
