Two goals, 86 minutes played: The stats behind a surprising Wolves player of the month award

Sasa Kalajdzic has been voted as Wolves’ player of the month for August, fending off some serious competition.

Despite signing in the summer of 2022, August 2023 was effectively Sasa’s debut month for Wolves.

Putting a year of recovery and agony behind him following his injury last year, his 12 minute cameo against Manchester United was only his second appearance for Wolves.

It was in his very next game that he bagged his first goal for the club, a late winner at Goodison Park in a vital 1-0 win.

Just three days later he was back among the goals, scoring the opener in Wolves’ 5-0 thumping of Blackpool.

The two goals helped Sasa win the Wolves award from fans ahead of Matheus Cunha in second and Joao Gomes in third.

Somewhat of a surprising result, considering the effects of some players such as Hee-Chan Hwang.

The stats behind Sasa Kalajdzic winning Wolves’ player of the month

In what was a difficult month for Wolves, Sasa was a player who arguably produced the good when required most.

His goal against Everton was the most important moment of the season so far for Wolves which saw them grab their only points to date.

Two goals across 86 minutes of action is a remarkably good return considering Wolves have struggled to finish.

Quite incredibly Sasa has managed to secure a 100% conversion rate, when he shoots he scores.

Why he has won the award

The award win came as a surprise given the bit-part role Sasa has played thus far in the campaign.

However ultimately he has came in incredibly clutch when required and played a key role in both Wolves wins this season.

He has been a brilliant option from the bench for Wolves and without him, Wolves would have been in a seriously worse situation.

It is probably that the winning goal against the Toffees alone should be enough to see him win the award.
