Max Kilman has become the new captain at Wolves following the departures of Conor Coady and Ruben Neves – and yesterday, it was announced he has signed a new contract at the club.
The 26-year wore the armband in Neves’ absence last season.
And he had been wearing it in pre-season, suggesting that he would be stepping into the role full-time.
And Wolves recently confirmed that that would be the case.
It is a brilliant moment for Kilman, who has enjoyed a fantastic rise in his career over the past five years or so to reach this point.
Kilman has also signed a new contract with the club as a reward for his development and show of loyalty.
Wolves fans will be hoping he can thrive in the role of captain.
He is certainly a popular character, if the comments on his latest Instagram post are anything to go by.
Conor Coady and others send message to new Wolves captain Kilman after he signed new contract
Last night, Kilman took to Instagram to mark the fact he has signed a new contract with Wolves.
He captioned the post: “Delighted to sign a new deal and commit my future to this club. Thank you for all your support!”
There were hundreds of comments from fans congratulating him.
But there were also messages left from his current and former teammates.
Matheus Cunha said: “Good my captain. You deserved!!
Dan Bentley, a member of Wolves’ new leadership group along with Kilman, said: “Congratulations brother, fully deserved.”
Former Wolves defenders Romain Saiss and Fernando Marcal also each left some clapping emojis.
There was also a nice message from Coady, who left the club earlier this summer. He wrote ‘Top drawer my brother’, and included a heart.
When Kilman assumed the captaincy, he revealed in an interview with the club that he still speaks to Coady a lot and is close friends with him.
He has credited Coady with helping him to become the player and leader he is today.
Nice to see from Coady
You just know that Coady is delighted for Kilman about getting a new contract at Wolves. And he’s likely also buzzing that Kilman has been named the new captain.
The now-Leicester City defender had Kilman under his wing for years at Molineux.

Undoubtedly, he will have played a key role in helping Kilman to come out of his shell more during his time at the club.
Wolves are going into the new season in a bit of a frantic state after the whole Julen Lopetegui situation.
So hopefully, Kilman can act as the amazing leader Wolves really need him to be.
