There’s another abysmal Derby County record Wolves could yet match

Wolves lost 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday – meaning yet another game where the Old Gold didn’t score.

Wanderers fell short in their first game since relegation was confirmed, and the performance was greeted by boos from the South Bank after the full-time whistle.

Thoughts on that display, Wolves fans? 🙄

Supporters made their feelings known as Rob Edwards and the players went over to the stand in what must have been an uncomfortable moment for them. That said, the reaction was understandable.

Fans had to communicate their feelings over what has been an absolutely abysmal season.

And it could yet end in further embarrassment for Wolves, who can equal a record set by THAT Derby County side.

The Derby County record Wolves will want to avoid

This season Wolves have been toothless up top.

Their 24 Premier League goals scored so far is easily the lowest tally in the division, and it’s a major reason for the club’s relegation.

There are now four games remaining for Wolves to just try and give the supporters something.

But there’s also a record that they will really want to avoid equalling.

After drawing a blank against Spurs, Wolves have now not scored in 18 games in the Premier League so far this term.

The record for most Premier League games not scored in, in a single season, is 22 by Derby County in the 2007/08 season.

So while Wolves may have avoided that terrible lowest points haul record Derby set (11 points), there is still a chance they could equal the Rams’ record of games not scored in, which would be pretty awful.

Wanderers have four games left to score a goal and avoid this outcome, so there’s plenty of opportunity.

But fans won’t hold their breath – Wolves have managed just four shots on target across their last three Premier League games.

There’s also another record that Wolves will want to avoid matching, but this one is far more likely to tumble.

Wolves’ own record of Premier League games not scored in is 19, which happened in the 2000/01 season.

And if you look before the Premier League started, Wolves’ worst seasons for not scoring in top-flight games were 1981/82 (20) and 1983/84 (22).
