The Rob Edwards Premier League statistic that is completely damning

Rob Edwards may have improved the culture at Wolves, but unfortunately he’s struggling to get results – and this has been a longstanding issue for him personally in the Premier League.

Rob Edwards came to Wolves in November, replacing Vitor Pereira as head coach at Molineux.

The move was controversial with many unhappy over the way he left his role at Middlesbrough.

But it was an opportunity he felt he couldn’t pass up, and Wolves paid Boro compensation to prise him away from the Riverside Stadium.

There have been some bright sparks during his time at Molineux as head coach.

But by and large, it really has been a struggle – and yesterday, a frankly shocking statistic emerged that sums up Edwards’ fortunes in the Premier League.

Edwards has managed 22 Premier League games for Wolves since replacing Pereira and he has a record of three wins, six draws and 13 defeats.

Wolves’ latest defeat came against Leeds United on Saturday, and it leaves the club on the brink in terms of relegation. If West Ham United draw with Crystal Palace on Monday, they’ll be officially down.

Yesterday’s loss was another bad day at the office for Edwards, who has actually really struggled at Premier League level in his career, with a damning new statistic really emphasising this.

As per Fotmob, among all 130 managers who have managed 50+ Premier League games, Wolves boss Edwards has the lowest win percentage (15.3% – nine wins in 59 games) and has the lowest points per game ratio (0.69).

He is also the only manager to see his sides concede at least two or more goals per game (118 goals in 59 games, exactly two per game).

The data is not a good look, and will now have fans questioning whether he is the right man to take Wolves forward.

Edwards has much better record in the Championship, but will he get there?

Of course, Wolves will be playing in the Championship next season – and Edwards’ record is better in the second tier.

Across his spells at Watford, Luton Town, and Middlesbrough, he’s picked up 32 wins, 23 draws and 23 defeats, giving him a win percentage of 41.03%.

Rob Edwards’ Championship managerial record
Games managed – 78
Wins – 32
Draws – 23
Losses – 23
Win percentage – 41%

So there is likely to be faith from the higher-ups in Edwards managing Wolves in the Championship.

That said though, he should be under the microscope for these final five games and it shouldn’t be a guarantee that he’s definitely kept on.

Ultimately, barring a few good performances, Wolves really have struggled under Edwards.
