The one relegation permutation for Wolves that’d be especially hard to stomach

Wolves could officially be relegated from the Premier League this weekend – but there’s one scenario that would be especially hard to stomach.

The Old Gold’s defeat to West Ham United on Friday has left the club on the brink.

There had been a shred of hope before that game. But that hope has now been extinguished, following a shocking second-half capitulation at London Stadium.

For Wolves it’s now a question of when and not if.

And potentially, relegation could be confirmed as soon as this weekend.

Relegation is relegation. But actually, there is one situation that could happen that could further compound Wolves fans’ misery.

Wolves’ relegation could be confirmed by Nuno Espirito Santo

The permutations have been shared ahead of this weekend.

Wolves can be relegated if they lose to Leeds United and then Tottenham Hotspur win in the 5:30pm kick-off against Brighton.

But if Spurs don’t win, there’s still a possibility that Wolves could go down on the Monday.

West Ham United are taking on Crystal Palace and if they take just a point and Wolves have already lost, then relegation would be confirmed. Wolves would be 16 points from safety with only 15 left to play for.

So, there is a situation that could see Nuno Espirito Santo be the one to officially relegate Wolves, which is a real sickener.

Nuno, of course, is still idolised by so many Wolves fans for all he did during his four years at Molineux.

He was the man who oversaw the best era during Fosun’s ownership of the club, guiding Wolves out of the Championship and establishing them in the Premier League.

Undoubtedly, Nuno’s Wolves were genuinely feared by other Premier League teams.

He secured back-to-back seventh-placed finishes, had Wolves playing in the Europa League and also led the club to an FA Cup semi-final.

Those really were the good times, and the club has fallen a long, long way since he left the club in 2021.

Many feared his exit would be the start of a struggle. And that has proven to be the case.

Several managers since him had brief periods of promise. But they all bit the bullet not long after, and none ever came close to having the kind of success that Nuno had.

Wolves will be going down, and for a club legend to potentially be the one to confirm it really would be a tough one to take.
