Ruud van Nistelrooy again suggests he wants to keep Fabio Silva

PSV Eindhoven manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has reiterated his desire to keep hold of Wolves striker Fabio Silva.

The 20-year-old made an important contribution for the Dutch giants in their latest match against Sparta Rotterdam.

PSV needed to win to keep their hopes of finishing in the Champions League spot alive. Currently, they are in second place.

A loss would have meant Feyenoord would have had the chance to win the league title today against Excelsior.

PSV struggled in the first-half against Sparta. But van Nistelrooy made two changes at the break. Anwar El Ghazi and Phillip Mwene both came on for Jordan Teze and Johan Bakayoko.

Just after the hour, Wolves loanee Silva also entered the action.

The changes from van Nistelrooy ultimately led to PSV winning the game 1-0, with Silva’s cross being tipped into the path of El Ghazi who was following in.

After the game, van Nistelrooy spoke about the prospect of keeping Silva beyond the current season.

He said (Telegraaf): “It’s just amazing. Not just him. You get asked every time why so-and-so isn’t playing. But we just have multiple base players. They make the difference as substitutes. It’s a great team effort. We need everyone. He fills it in great, when he gets in. Compliments to him too. You know where he’s under contract and what the price tag might be. But I’m going to enjoy working with him for at least three more games.

“You always want to keep your best players. We’re going to see what’s possible. The same goes for Jarrad Branthwaite. He is on loan from Everton. Fabio is under contract with Wolves. You know those could be difficult amounts for us, but they are great talents to work with. It’s a pleasure to see those guys make strides in their careers.”

It is not the first time van Nistelrooy has spoken about keeping Silva.

Silva himself has also spoken publicly about remaining in the Netherlands. He’s enjoying his time there, and if it was down to him he would be staying put.

It was recently reported by the Express & Star that Silva was keen to further his development away from Wolves next season.

Fabio Silva’s return to Wolves next season is starting to feel more unlikely

It is starting to feel as though Silva leading the line for Wolves next season isn’t going to happen.

PSV and van Nistelrooy seem very keen to keep him.

Whatever ends up happening, he will at least return to Molineux for talks.

Julen Lopetegui will be keen to have a chat with him. If he tells the manager that he’s keen to continue developing away from Wolves then if will be very interesting to see if the manager gives that the green light.
