Wolves crashed to yet another defeat yesterday in the Premier League against Liverpool – but Ruben Neves was left very impressed by one of his former teammates.

Wanderers enjoyed an extremely good first-half at Molineux against the Reds.

But they could not sustain their level in the second-half, and allowed Liverpool to come back.

Wolves should have gone in at half-time at least two goals to the good.

But the team was wasteful, and they were made to pay in the end.

But positives can be taken from the 3-1 defeat.

And one of the biggest came in the form of the performance from Pedro Neto…

Ruben Neves amazed by Pedro Neto against Liverpool

Yesterday’s first-half performance was absolutely superb – and Neto was at the heart of all of Wolves’ great play.

The Portuguese winger was a constant threat down the left.

He gave Joe Gomez – filling in for the injured Trent Alexander-Arnold – a torrid time.

And it was Neto who made the opening goal for Wolves, jinking through three players before crossing to the back post for Hwang Hee-chan to score.

It was superb play, and Neto now has four assists in the Premier League. He’s level at the top of the chart with Mo Salah, who helped himself to three yesterday.

After the game, Neto came in for a lot of praise.

And his former Wolves teammate Ruben Neves was clearly impressed as well. The former Molineux midfielder shared a clip on Instagram of Neto’s assist for Hwang, tagging the player and leaving a ‘drooling’ emoji.

Neto looking back to his best

That first-half showing from Neto was absolutely electric.

It was just a pity that the team could not sustain that level, and Neto was pretty ineffective in the second-half.

It’s four defeats in the first five games, but Neto’s form is definitely a positive for Wolves.

He very much looks like he is a getting back to his best.
