Nelson Semedo to be assessed after picking up injury against Brighton

Nelson Semedo will be assessed by Wolves after picking up an injury against Brighton.

Wanderers suffered their worst defeat of the season yesterday, losing 6-0 to the Seagulls at the Amex Stadium.

It was a decent chance to get more points on the board for Wolves, with Roberto De Zerbi naming Moises Caicedo, Kaoru Mitoma and Alexis Mac Allister on his bench.

But there was to be no kicking on from the win over Crystal Palace.

Instead, Wolves rocked up on the south coast and it looked like they were on the beach.

The way the goals were being conceded was very alarming, and Julen Lopetegui said after the game that he didn’t recognise his team.

It was just an awful day at the office, and there needs to be a big response against Aston Villa.

One man who is currently a doubt to face the Villans is £29 million man Semedo, who went off just before half-time.

Speaking after the game, Lopetegui said (Express & Star): “I don’t know. We will make the assessment tomorrow.

“But it’s not a good thing for us as he’s a very important player for us.

“He has pain in his knee, but I don’t know more.”

Wolves losing Nelson Semedo would be a big blow as Lopetegui confirms injury

Hopefully there will be a positive update on Semedo in the coming days.

He was having a torrid time against Brighton (who wasn’t?) but he is still the best right-back option for Wolves.

On the whole, he has been good under Lopetegui.

He provides an outlet for Wolves and Lopetegui clearly rates him highly. The manager has praised him several times publicly, and he would be pained to lose him for next Saturday’s game.
