Nelson Semedo expects Joao Moutinho to stay at Wolves

Wolves defender Nelson Semedo expects his teammate Joao Moutinho to stay at Wolves beyond the summer.

At the moment, the veteran and the club are in talks about a contract extension.

It has been reported that Moutinho would like another two years at Molineux, whereas Wolves want to offer him one.

There is now just one month to go now before his existing deal expires, and he can walk away as a free agent.

Apparently, AS Roma are waiting to make a move for Moutinho should he fail to agree fresh terms.

Moutinho enjoyed a pretty good 2021/22 overall. The maestro managed to bounce back from a very sub-par 2020/21 season, and put in a string of brilliant performances alongside his compatriot Ruben Neves.

He was particularly good at the start of the calendar year, with one of his finest displays coming against Manchester United at Old Trafford, where Wolves won 1-0 with Moutinho grabbing the goal.

We will hopefully soon find out what will be happening with Moutinho, but Semedo reckons his compatriot will be sticking around.

He said (via Express & Star): “If I’m honest, I would prefer to keep the players we have here rather than bring in players.

“Saiss is a great player. We also have Moutinho, who I expect to renew – please!

“The age is not important. He’s doing great, he runs, he fights and he helps us a lot. He is an experienced player who helps us a lot and is very important to us.

“Since I’ve known him, he’s a worker with and without the ball. He’s class.”

Wolves need experienced head Joao Moutinho to stay at Molineux

Hopefully Wolves will soon come to an agreement with Moutinho.

It’s really important he extends his contract, especially with leaders like John Ruddy and Romain Saiss leaving.

It’s possible a host of new faces will be arriving at the club in the next transfer window, too.

It always helps having top, experienced professionals in the squad to set examples and help the newbies settle in.
