Romain Saiss celebrated his 34th birthday earlier this week – and the former Wolves defender went on to score a stunning goal for Al-Shabab.
Saiss left Molineux in the summer of 2022, having spent six years at the club.
He joined Wolves from Angers in 2016, becoming the 10th signing after Fosun acquired the club.
Saiss went on to become a real cult hero at Wolves, impressing fans over the years with his fierce determination and fighting spirit.
Saiss left Wolves and claimed shortly after that he had received an offer to extend his contract that was not satisfactory. He then joined Besitkas.
These days, Saiss plays for Al-Shabib (on loan from Al Sadd) and yesterday, he scored an outstanding goal…
Former Wolves defender Romain Saiss scores stunning free-kick as Ruben Neves watches on

Yesterday, Al-Shabab took on Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League – and a thrilling game ensued.
In the end, Al-Hilal ran out 4-3 winners. They had a 4-1 lead after 57 minutes, but Al-Shabab did fight back, finding goals through Hussain Al-Sibyani and then Saiss.
And Saiss’ goal was absolutely superb.
Al-Shabab had a free-kick around 30 yards from goal, and it was the former Wolves centre-back who took it.
Wolves fans saw Saiss score quite a few goals down the years at Molineux, but these were mainly headers.
On Saturday, he stepped up to take a free-kick and lashed his effort into the top corner. It is the first free-kick he has scored in his career – and it came right in front of his old Wolves teammate Ruben Neves, who was in midfield for Al-Hilal. The amazing goal can be seen over on Al-Hilal’s official YouTube channel.
That now takes Saiss-tally of goals for Al-Shabab to four in 17 appearances.
Neves would be proud
This was some strike from Saiss, who will have surprised many with the goal.
He was always a goal threat for Wolves but he was never really a free-kick taker.
The man on dead balls for Wolves was very often Ruben Neves, who had to have been pretty impressed by Saiss’ strike.
It was very much a goal right out of the Portuguese maestro’s catalogue, and no doubt Neves will have been pleased for a man he spent five years with at Wolves.
