Portugal star Jose Fonte is unsurprised by Ruben Neves’ transfer links to Arsenal.

The 37-year-old international teammate of the Wolverhampton Wanderers ace was speaking on talkSPORT yesterday about the maestro.

It is very clear to him how good a player the 24-year-old is.

The newly crowned Ligue 1 champion with Lille said: “Ruben is a great, young player. We cannot forget he is still a young player.

“He’s done very well since he came to England. I can’t say I’m surprised [about the links to Arsenal] because of the quality he has and his passing range is second to none.

“He can score goals from outside the box. He’s very clever. I’m not surprised there is interest in him.”

There is a certainly a lot to Neves’ game, and his development has been clear over the past few years.

Arguably £40 million is the least Wolves should be accepting for the star.

Fans have been divided about that particular fee.

Neves would be a big loss

It seems Neves could well be the big-name player that departs Wolves this summer.

And if that does prove to be the case, then he will be a big loss.

He didn’t have his best season in 2020/21, but he was still one of Wolves’ better performers.

It’s as Fonte says, his passing range is second to none and he is capable of scoring goals.

They are two very valuable qualities to have in a midfielder.

Getting an adequate replacement for him will be no easy task.
