Wolves officials will have hoped for Fabio Silva to continue his good form at PSV Eindhoven after leaving Anderlecht – but the youngster hasn’t quite managed to force his way into the team yet.
Last month, Wanderers decided to facilitate a new loan move for the 20-year-old.
Wolves officials determined Silva would not be getting as much game time in the second half of the season.
And so, Silva was sent to PSV.
There were high hopes about the youngster’s move there.
After all, he is working with Ruud van Nistelrooy, one of the game’s finest ever strikers.
But so far, Silva is yet to start a game for the Dutch giants.
He’s made five appearances up to now – three in the league, one in the Europa League and one in the cup. He grabbed his first goal in the recent 6-0 win over Groningen.
The most amount of time he’s had on the pitch is the 28 minutes he got against Sevilla.
For the last league game against FC Utrecht, van Nistelrooy didn’t even turn to him.
It is difficult, because Luuk de Jong is the man striker for PSV. He is the captain, and has scored eight goals and made six assists in 24 appearances so far this season.
Certainly, Silva will have to really knuckle down in training if he is to become a regular like he was at Anderlecht.
A tricky start to life at PSV for Fabio Silva, and Wolves officials will hope they’ve made the right decision
So Silva has not yet been able to break into the starting XI at PSV.
It is an interesting situation, with Wolves sending him there in the hope he would actually play more.
PSV are looking to keep pace with those above them at the top of the league table.
So it is understandable van Nistelrooy wants to mainly rely on de Jong, who has a very good goalscoring record in the Netherlands.
Hopefully, opportunities will soon come Silva’s way. It would be frustrating if was just a bit-part player through until the end of the season.
