Fabio Silva has scored his first goal for PSV Eindhoven, after recently joining the Dutch giants on loan.
The Wolves youngster was named on the bench again, but was introduced with around 20 minutes to go.
Ruud van Nistelrooy has been reluctant so far to use the 20-year-old from the beginning, perhaps to allow him to settle in.
But Silva may have staked a claim to start the next game against Sevilla in the Europa League on Thursday. PSV then face FC Utrecht next weekend.
Against Groningen, Silva replaced Luuk de Jong and did not take long to get on the scoresheet.
It was actually a lovely team goal from PSV, which started with the goalkeeper.
They moved the ball nicely out of defence and down the right wing.
Kenny Tete latched onto a ball over the top and got to the byline before squaring for Silva, who’d took up a great position.
It was great movement from the youngster, with the defender having no real idea where he was at any point.
Silva steered the ball into the far corner with a great first-time finish.
It was probably a finish van Nistelrooy himself would have been proud of. He was a master a finding space in the box before providing that clinical finish.
Fabio Silva must now build on first goal for PSV
It’s good to see Silva getting his first goal relatively early on after joining the club from Anderlecht.
And PSV need him firing consistently, because they are very much in a title race at present.
They’re just four points behind leaders Feyenoord, so Silva coming into some goalscoring form will be helpful.
His first goal should now give him the confidence to kick on.
