Fabio Silva and Ki-Jana Hoever names among nominees for Golden Boy 2022

Wolves youngsters Fabio Silva and Ki-Jana Hoever have been named on the 100-man shortlist for the Golden Boy 2022.

The Molineux duo have been recognised among the best youngsters in the world.

They are two of 10 inclusions from the Premier League.

The award, won by Pedri last time, is given to the best U21 players and is decided by a mix of votes on the website of organisers Tuttosport and a range of European journalists.

The favourites for this year’s award are Eduardo Camavinga, Gavi, Jamal Musiala and Jude Bellingham.

It is the second time Wolves striker Silva has been named on the shortlist, and a first nod for Hoever.

Last year, Rayan Ait-Nouri was included.

Silva undoubtedly has a lot of potential, but it’s been hard for him since moving to Wolves in the summer of 202o.

He arrived for a huge fee of £35.6 million, and was thrust into the spotlight in the 2020/21 season following the injury to Raul Jimenez.

In the season just gone, he mostly had to play second fiddle to the Mexican, and he finished the campaign without scoring.

Hoever, who sign for Wolves for £13.5 million, also has a big future ahead of him.

But it’s also been a tricky time for him. He’s struggled competing with nelson Semedo, and is currently being linked with a move back to the Netherlands.

A surprise to see Silva and Hoever among Golden Boy nominees

As promising as both of these young players are, it is slightly surprising to see them both in this list.

Hoever hasn’t shown a great deal in Wolves colours, and Silva obviously didn’t score a goal in the 2021/22, as lively as he looked in some games.

Hopefully, both players can enjoy must better seasons in 2022/23, whether that be at Molineux or on loan at another club.

It would be amazing to have a young player from Wolves in genuine contention to win the Golden Boy award.
