Daniel Podence sends message to Fabio Silva after striker wins Dutch Cup for PSV

Wolves striker Fabio Silva was the hero on Sunday night as PSV won the Dutch Cup on penalties against Ajax.

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side won the trophy for the 11th time in their history.

The match had finished 1-1 after 90 minutes, meaning extra-time would be played.

The 30 minutes could not separate the two teams and so a penalty shootout took place.

Both teams missed two of their first three penalties. After Edson Alvarez missed for Ajax, Silva stepped up for PSV with the chance to seal the trophy.

The youngster made no mistake, firing to Geronimo Rulli’s right.

Bedlam ensued, with Silva removing his shirt and celebrating wildly.

It was a fantastic moment for the striker, who has enjoyed a productive season away from Molineux.

He’s scored 16 goals across stints with Anderlecht and PSV, which is a good return. The main thing though is that he’s had plenty of minutes this term.

He actually didn’t start for PSV in the final against Ajax. He only came on in extra-time.

But Silva has had a decent level of involvement on the whole, and Wolves officials are bound to be pleased with his season.

Silva has been elated since his amazing moment, with the Wolves man posting three times on Instagram since the game.

His first post drew a big response, with fans hailing him for his winning kick.

There was also a message left by Wolves winger Daniel Podence, who said: “There’s not much better than a little trophy.”

A wonderful career moment for Wolves striker Fabio Silva, who’s had a successful season out on loan

It was brilliant to see Silva writing his name into the history books with his winning spot-kick for PSV.

He had a tough couple of years at Wolves before this term, so it’s been nice to see him getting minutes, developing his game and scoring goals.

He’ll never forget that moment, and hopefully he will take massive confidence from it.

It is unclear at this stage what will happen with Silva next season. Julen Lopetegui is thought to want him back at Molineux.

van Nistelrooy has spoken about extending Silva’s loan. But Wolves may have something to say about that. Especially if Raul Jimenez and Diego Costa leave.
