Chris Sutton makes score prediction ahead of Aston Villa vs Wolves

Wolves are taking on Aston Villa tonight in the Premier League.

Julen Lopetegui is looking to start 2023 in the right way, and comes up against an old foe in Unai Emery.

The pair have met five times previously in La Liga, with the Molineux boss having lost just once.

It should be a really good game. Both sides have made improvements under their respective new Spanish managers.

For Wolves, the incentive is that a win will get them out of the relegation zone. Psychologically, that would be huge for the players.

Emery has had five games in charge at Villa so far. He has won three of those and lost two.

They probably head into this contest as slight favourites.

BBC Sport pundit Chris Sutton has given his prediction ahead of the game.

He reckons there will be nothing to separate the two teams tonight at Villa Park. Predicting a 1-1 result, he said (via BBC Sport): “We’ve already seen an improvement from Wolves under Julen Lopetegui. They lost to Manchester United last time out but they ran them very close and played with a bit of purpose, and I am expecting that to continue here.

“I like what Unai Emery is doing with Aston Villa too and it will be interesting to see his approach here. They are also a well-drilled side, and this should be another close game.”

Lopetegui has confirmed new signing Matheus Cunha will be available to play.

Diego Costa has struggled to make an impact in recent games. So the 23-year-old coming straight in would make a lot of supporters happy.

Wolves have to go for it against Aston Villa, as Chris Sutton predicts 1-1 draw

This game has the potential to be a complete catalyst for Wolves.

Win here with a good performance, and confidence will absolutely soar.

Lopetegui needs to just go for it. No sitting back and playing for a point in the hope of not losing a local derby match.

There have been positive signs so far, and the players should believe they can take the game to their opponents at Villa Park.

Hopefully, Cunha will be starting and giving Villa a different kind of headache to Costa.
