Bruno Lage praised Fernando Marcal and Daniel Podence, after Wolves beat Brighton 1-0 last night.

Wolves secured a big three points on the south coast against a depleted Seagulls side.

Romain Saiss’ brilliant volley proved to be the difference between the two teams.

The Moroccan was on the end of a brilliant chip from Ruben Neves, and finished like a striker.

Saiss then hit the post in the second-half.

It was a good evening for Wolves, who came into the game without Raul Jimenez and then lost Rayan Ait-Nouri to injury in the warm-up and then Hwang Hee-chan in the early stages of the game.

Marcal came in to replace the Frenchman, and did fairly well considering he hasn’t started a game October.

Lage was pleased with the Brazilian. And he also put in a good word about Podence, who had also not started for a number of weeks.

He said: “Marcal did very well and also Daniel, he didn’t play too much, but today he played, he did everything I asked and I’m also very happy with him because it was a hard game to play, between the lines against two centre backs.”

Both players did decent jobs, with Podence very lively for Wolves up top in a sort of false nine role.

He linked up well with Adama Traore, and has certainly got a strong case for starting against Chelsea.

Daniel Podence could to play big part for Wolves now

It was great to see Podence back in the starting XI for Wolves.

His performance against West Ham United was really good. But then he got Covid-19 which resulted in him missing games against Norwich City and Burnley. And he could only make the bench against Liverpool after not training.

It looks as though Hwang Hee-chan could be sidelined now with a hamstring injury.

If that is to be the case, then £17 million star Podence could be set to play a big part for Wolves.

He’s got to make any chances that come his way count.
