Bruno Lage has put pressure on Fosun with comments about Ruben Neves

Earlier this week, Bruno Lage spoke about Ruben Neves, insisting it is important for Wolves to increase his salary and the number of years on his contract.

The 25-year-old has enjoyed a tremendous campaign at Molineux this season.

Having dipped last term like most players, Neves has reached new levels this season under the guidance of Lage.

The star has regularly been the standout player in games, and has thrived alongside Joao Moutinho in the middle of the park.

Teams are already expressing interest in Neves ahead of the summer window.

Manchester United have been mentioned quite a bit, and there was a report earlier this week that Erik ten Hag will go in pursuit of Neves should he come their new manager.

There is a general acceptance from Molineux officials that interest will be high in Neves.

Lage is also full expecting there to be interest. But he did play it well this weekend in his press conference before the Newcastle game.

He said of the maestro (via Birmingham Mail): “I don’t know if it’s Man Utd or other teams, what I know is we have a special player here with us.

“What he is doing this season is very good. I think also the way we play, he can show a better Ruben, and also the way he plays puts our team on a different level.

“When you have that player, the best thing to do is improve his salary and years of contract. But who knows, when you have a top player like him in that specific position, that can defend and attack, and is a top professional and a great man, the big teams are there with £100 million to buy these kinds of players.

“It depends on the strategy of Wolves also. That’s why it was so hard to find players in the last two transfer windows because we want to find the best players at the right price and the right age to help us, then after two or three years they can give us economical profit. It’s not just about Wolves, in these days which club can refuse a proposal of 80, 90 or 100 million pounds? Five or six.”

Bruno Lage has put Fosun under pressure with comments on Ruben Neves

It was good to hear Lage speaking in such a manner about Neves.

Ideally, Neves is going to sign a new contract with Wolves and there will be no need to be talking about him potentially leaving this summer.

But it’s possible he may not agree an extension, which may encourage Fosun to try and sell.

Lage suggesting publicly that Neves is worth up to £100 million was a smart move.

By doing that, it may mean Fosun are less likely to accept below his market value.

Rhyming off such numbers puts the pressure on them to only sell for such an amount. Selling for less would make them deeply unpopular.
