Andy Thompson hails Ruben Neves after superb assist for Wolves against Brighton

Former Molineux full-back Andy Thompson has hailed Ruben Neves, after the midfielder provided a wonderful assist for Romain Saiss to score against Brighton last night.

The midfielder collected the ball on the edge of the box after a poor clearance from a Wolves corner.

Plenty of times in the past, Neves has simply put his foot through the ball in that scenario.

But the 24-year-old got his head up and saw Saiss in a promising position.

He then played a beautiful clipped pass over to the Moroccan, who finished right-footed on the volley into the bottom corner.

It was a fantastic finish from the centre-back. It was probably one that the suspended Raul Jimenez would have been proud of.

But it was also a sumptuous pass from Neves. And that was actually his first assist of the season.

Watching for Matchday Live Extra, former Molineux star Thompson lavished praise on Neves.

He said: “Neves was 18 yards out, the ball was coming to him and I was thinking, ‘Just hit it!’ But ok, I’ll let him off with the pass that he did.

“He’s got the ability, under pressure, to pick out that vital pass. It just shows how he stands out from a lot of players that you watch, where he’s able, from tight situations with pressure coming onto him, that he can pick that pass.”

It was a tremendous ball from Neves to Saiss. Fans will definitely be hoping to see more of that as the season goes on.

He has been in fine fettle this season, and the star is again drawing a lot of praise on social media – and not just from Wolves fans.

After Bruno Lage had recently expressed the need to keep the group together. One would hope Fosun aren’t ready to entertain offers for the player.

Realistic Wolves fans know £16 million star Neves is probably unlikely to remain with the club for too much longer. But it would be extremely disappointing if he did depart next month.
