After scoring a brilliant goal against Chelsea, Nunes turned provider against Brentford on Saturday.

He set up Hwang Hee-chan to score Wolves’ second goal of the afternoon, after Diego Costa had given the hosts the lead.

And it was fantastic play from Nunes.

He picked the ball up on the right wing and carried the ball into the area, having nutmegged a Brentford player.

The 24-year-old left three players trailing in his wake before squaring for Hwang.

He technically may not get the assist as the ball was clear by Ethan Pinnock into Hwang’s path. But it would be very cruel to take it away from him given his amazing work to make the goal.

That is what Nunes is all about.

The way he can pick the ball up and drive with it is one of the reasons he is such a coveted player.

Not many players can do what he does, and Thompson heaped praise on him on Saturday. In his eyes, Nunes’ pace is an underrated part of his game.

He said (via Wolves official): “You see for the second goal, how he’s run with the ball, and we saw it first half, he’s very hard to stop. You think you’ve got him, but he’s a lot quicker than you think.”

Interestingly, it recently came to light that Nunes has been clocked as the quickest midfielder in the Premier League so far this season.

He reached a speed of 36.32km/h, according to Squawka.

Matheus Nunes is unstoppable at times with that pace, power and balance

Nunes’ pace is very impressive. Especially when he is possession of the ball.

When he is in full flight, it is really difficult to stop him.

There was an instance in the first-half against Brentford when he effortlessly strode past Mathias Jensen, and the Dane had no choice put to pull him back and take the yellow card.

It is what makes him so good. And why many teams admire him.

It is not all that common for a central midfielder to have such traits. And these traits are also part of the reason he’s actually quite good out wide too.
