Wolves play their final Premier League game of the season today, and have the chance to leapfrog Burnley into 19th place.

After many months of frustration, fans will watch the Old Gold for the final time in 2025/26 – and who knows how long it’ll be until Wolves contest their next Premier League fixture.

It has been a truly dismal season, and one that plenty feared had been coming given how Wolves have effectively been circling the drain over the past few years.

Wolves fans, do you have any confidence that we can beat Burnley and finish 19th?! 🤔

We are just two points behind the Clarets going into the final day… 🙏

But the fears of relegation became a reality last month, and Wolves now have a huge amount to do this summer to ensure there’s a good chance of getting promoted at the first time of asking.

But first, Wolves face Burnley – and pundits Paul Merson and Chris Sutton have dropped their predictions.

Given how disastrous this season has been, it is actually quite surprising that Wolves still have a chance of not finishing bottom.

Indeed, going into today’s game Wolves are just two points behind Burnley.

So victory will ensure a 19th-placed finish, which would at least be something. It would also mean slightly more prize money, which can be put towards investment into the squad.

The game is at Turf Moor, so Wolves will have to break their duck of not winning away from home all season.

For Paul Merson, the Old Gold won’t do that.

Predicting a 2-2 draw, he told Sportskeeda: “No one wants to finish bottom of the league! I expect Burnley and Wolves to go all out for the win here and this could become an entertaining clash.

“I was impressed by how Wolves got a draw against Fulham in their last game. But I just feel Burnley can do enough to hold on to 19th place and avoid finishing at the bottom.

“Both these teams have a strong chance of returning to the Premier League next year. I can’t see them being outside the top six in the Championship next season, no question about it!”

Chris Sutton has also given his thoughts about the game for BBC Sport.

In his eyes, Wolves won’t even get a point, and lose 1-0. He said: “Since Wolves beat Liverpool on 3 March, these two teams have not managed a single win between them out of a total of 16 games.

“Wolves were showing some signs of improvement back then, but they could not sustain it. It’s been a horrible season for them.

“As for Burnley, well they put up a decent fight against Arsenal on Monday but they still lost – and that is probably the story of their campaign.

“So, will either of them give their fans something to smile about on Sunday? Wolves have not won an away league game all season, and I don’t see that changing now.

“The sensible thing to do here would be to go for a draw but I have got a predictions title to win so I need to take some risks. I am going to back Burnley to edge it.”

Should Rob Edwards keep with a back four for Wolves’ final game vs Burnley? 🤔

There are multiple reasons for the Wolves players to really embrace today’s final game.

But ultimately, the biggest thing for all of them should be personal pride and giving those travelling fans a performance they have long deserved.

The support both at home and on the road this season has been unwavering, and every single player should be endeavouring to pay the supporters back today.
