Wolves youngster who impressed Julen Lopetegui on trial with Championship club

Wolves continue to work away on bringing new players to the club, but there could soon be a departure for one youngster.

It’s been quite a worrying summer so far at Molineux.

Fer Lopez is the only signing so far, although Jhon Arias will be confirmed as Wolves’ second signing very soon.

But a string of players have departed, and Vitor Pereira has admitted his concern over how Wolves’ summer has gone.

And it isn’t just first-team players who are leaving, with one youngster currently on trial with a Championship club.

It has been reported this evening that Dexter Lembikisa is appearing for Charlton Athletic in their pre-season friendly against Wealdstone.

Lembikisa has been with Wolves since the age of 13 and has been a prominent figure in the academy setup at Molineux.

In the last few years though, he’s been getting a taste of senior football, having loan spells with Rotherham United, Hearts, Yverdon Sport and most recently, Barnsley.

Lembikisa could potentially be set for a return to the Championship next season, because tonight he is playing for Charlton Athletic against Wealdstone according to journalist Louis Mendez.

The Addicks, of course, have just come back up the Championship from League One, after beating Leyton Orient at Wembley in the play-off final, and are seeking to bolster their squad ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Lembikisa previously impressed Julen Lopetegui at Wolves

Lembikisa has been a regular for the U21s at Wolves, but he has had a few outings with the first-team previously.

The Jamaica international made his debut against Leeds United in November 2022 in an EFL cup game against Leeds United.

He then made his Premier League debut against Arsenal, coming on as a substitute, before Julen Lopetegui handed him his first start against Liverpool in the FA Cup.

After that game, Lopetegui said of Lembikisa (via Birmingham Mail): “He’s 19, a good guy, he wants to learn more. I think he has good physical strengths and he has improved a lot of things, as have all the players. He is working in a good direction and with a good commitment.

“He is very young and has to keep this up for a lot of years. The more difficult thing is not to arrive, it is to stay.”

Lopetegui gave further praise to Lembikisa, saying: “He [Dexter] and Hodgy, they have shown a good character and personality, and even quality because they have been able to play here and they have to believe in themselves.

“But this is not about their age. This is about their quality and their character and to be ready to compete in this level.”

It remains to be seen if this trial will result in a loan or permanent move for Lembikisa. At the age of 21 though, Wanderers may well be thinking about a sale.
