Wolves will sell ‘excellent’ 2021 signing if the price is right in final weeks of the transfer window

Many players have left Wolves in this transfer window, but there could still be a few more departures in the final weeks of the window.

Vitor Pereira’s squad is looking radically different now compared to last season, and some fans are slightly concerned.

Pereira has lost gamechangers like Matheus Cunha, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Pablo Sarabia, and it is hoped that new signings Jhon Arias, David Moller Wolfe and Fer Lopez will prove to be worthy replacements.

Wolves sanctioned the exit of Goncalo Guedes most recently.

Guedes has admitted he never settled in England, and now hopes to enjoy a successful spell with Real Sociedad.

But Wolves could yet allow another forward to leave Molineux before the window closes.

Wolves could yet sell Hwang Hee-chan

Hwang Hee-chan did not have a good season in 2024/25.

The South Korean scored just two goals in 25 appearances, and was regularly criticised for lacking impact in games.

Injuries did not help his cause, and resulted in a loss of momentum for the player.

But undoubtedly, Hwang was way below the levels he showed in the 2023/24 season under Gary O’Neil.

O’Neil was a big fan of Hwang, branding him ‘excellent’ early in that season. But sadly, that is not a word used to describe him very much in 2024/25.

Hwang’s future has been the subject of a bit of speculation this summer, and now the Daily Mail have shared some information regarding the club’s stance on him.

They say Wolves will sell Hwang if the price is right in these final weeks of the window. No asking price is offered, but potentially the club may look to make back what they paid for him, which was around £14 million.

Marseille offered £21 million for Hwang last summer and Wolves turned it down. It is unlikely bids in that kind of ballpark will arrive this time.

Why Hwang to Birmingham didn’t materialise

Hwang was linked with a move to Birmingham City earlier in the transfer window.

Blues are looking for a strong season after getting back into the Championship, and have already poached Tommy Doyle on loan from Wolves.

Birmingham can sign Doyle permanently for £10 million if they win promotion, but that will be tricky.

Appearances – 119
Goals – 24
Assists – 8

In the end, Hwang – who Wolves signed inn 2021, initially on loan – didn’t follow Doyle to Birmingham, with the Daily Mail reporting that he was reluctant to drop into the Championship.

If Hwang ends up staying at Wolves this summer, he needs to improve a lot on last season.

He is a big confidence player, who is very capable of purple patches, and after losing a lot of goals and assists in Cunha, Ait-Nouri and Sarabia, it would be very ideal if he could step up.
