Wolves were willing to pay more than West Ham for Ajax midfielder, but he turned them down

Wolves are in desperate need of reinforcements in January, and central midfield is an area needing additions.

There is certainly a fear that it may be too late for the Old Gold in January in the relegation battle, with the club the only side without a win in the Premier League so far.

This concern around the club is not overblown, and Vitor Pereira’s job hangs in the balance.

Two points from eight games has not been good enough, and there have been valid questions surrounding the quality in the squad.

If Wolves are to give themselves a chance of surviving come May, they will need to get to January and still be in with a shout of escaping the bottom three.

Then, they can try to recruit higher-quality players to help achieve their goal, but a story from the summer could cause concern for those ambitions.

Wolves willing to spend on Kenneth Taylor but faced problems in the deal

In the summer, Wolves made a late move for Ajax’s Kenneth Taylor, but a deal was unable to be agreed.

It seemed likely that the player would make a transfer away from the Dutch giants, and the Old Gold alongside West Ham were right among the potential suitors.

According to a report by ESPN Netherlands, Ajax were demanding a higher transfer fee than expected but one that Wolves were willing to pay.

However, there was one major issue preventing a deal.

The report says, “Despite interest from FC Porto and West Ham United, the club is not acting on it and will demand a higher transfer fee than what Taylor and his entourage consider reasonable.

“The English club Wolves, however, is willing to go well above for the Ajax midfielder, but Taylor himself is not keen on a move to Wolverhampton.”

While they apparently had no issues putting up the money for Taylor, the issue of the player not wanting to join the Molineux club could be a problem come January.

Kenneth Taylor’s situation spells issue for January

Unfortunately for Wolves, the situation with Kenneth Taylor is likely to be a common issue that keeps springing up.

Wolves are not an attractive project at the moment, and with the club set for a relegation battle, it will be tough to convince players.

Kenneth Taylor would have been an excellent addition, but they may have to consider signing players a step below in order to get deals done.

There are plenty of hidden gems in the market who could make an instant impact, but that will be down to the club to find.

January could be one of the most important transfer windows in the club’s history, and they face the tough task of bringing in the right players.
