Wolves want to sign a player with 20 goals this season, he’s ’very similar’ to Robbie Keane

Vitor Pereira’s biggest mission in the summer transfer window will be replacing Matheus Cunha’s firepower.

For all his flaws and poor attitude, the Brazilian has been exceptional in front of goal, scoring 17 times in all competitions.

The 25-year-old has attracted significant transfer attention as a result, with Manchester United set to offer Cunha a five-year contract.

United are currently leading the race for Wolves’ prized possession, with supporters accepting he’s going to depart sooner rather than later.

While they’ll lose an essentially world-class player, Vitor Pereira will already be scouring the market for players to replace his output, including one star from the Eredivisie.

Wolves are interested in AZ Alkmaar forward Troy Parrott

Wolves have had incredible success shopping on foreign shores, as seen with the emergence of defensive powerhouse Emmanuel Agbadou.

According to transfer expert Ben Jacobs, the Old Gold ‘like’ the look of AZ Alkmaar striker Troy Parrott, who has been in exceptional form for the Dutch side since leaving Tottenham in the summer.

Speaking on the Wolfpack Podcast, Jacobs said: “They also like Troy Parrott who has done very well since leaving Spurs.

“He’s playing for AZ, I think he’s got 14 goals in the Eredivisie and 20 in all competitions. But it’s just whether a player of that form and calibre would be allowed to leave AZ when he’s only done one season, so those kinds of profiles and names could be ones to watch.”

Parrott is an instinctive finisher, someone capable of finding space in the box and gobbling opportunities, sharing similar traits to one former Molineux hero.

Parrott has been compared to Robbie Keane

A 28-cap Republic of Ireland international, who rose to prominence through the academy at Spurs, it’s easy to see the comparison with Robbie Keane.

One of the Premier League’s most iconic forwards of all time, Keane began his professional career in the youth system at Wolves as a 17-year-old.

The clinical striker scored 27 goals in 85 appearances for the Old Gold before being sold to Coventry City for £6 million, where he went on to have an outstanding career.

Unsurprisingly, when speaking about the rise of Parrott at AZ, Ferencvaros manager Keane said he’s ‘very similar’ to him as a player.

“I have a lot of time for Troy,” he said via the Irish Times before facing AZ in the Europa League in January. “We are very similar in terms of how we play and also our upbringing.

“I completely respect what he is doing. I know he had a couple of loans, some did okay, but he is playing in Europe and for a really good team.

“You learn a lot more about yourself [at a European club]. When I went to Italy at 19, 20 years of age, even in that short space of time I learned a lot in terms of how to play.”

“Look at Troy now, he is still young, still learning his trade. As a young player you have to go on these journeys. Take a few loans. Take a few hits and then go to a club where you feel valued and are the main guy.”
