Wolves’ poor first half of their Premier League season is set to cause some issues during the January transfer window.
Rob Edwards faces a challenge off the field, as well as on it, as the Old Gold are in desperate need of a mid-season overhaul.
Wolves often leave their business until the last minute, but that simply cannot be the case this time around, as this squad requires immediate improvements.
However, someone like Jorgen Strand Larsen or Joao Gomes may have to give way for the budget to become available, as Fosun likely won’t splash the cash with relegation looking likely.
The fact that Wolves are looking at a striker in the form of Sam Surridge suggests the Norwegian could be the man to leave. Especially after seeing Tolu Arokodare’s rise in form.
Who do you think will be the first to leave Wolves in January?🤔
Wolves no longer leading the race to sign Patrik Mercado
Rob Edwards appears to have lost ground in the race to sign a midfielder, as Patrik Mercado is no longer Wolves-bound for January.
It was reported just over a month ago that Wolves had ‘practically finalised’ a deal to sign Mercado, who operates as an attacking midfielder for Ecuadorian club Independiente del Valle.
However, that isn’t the case now.
BolaVIP claims that the attacking midfielder can be sold to Spanish side Sevilla, who have taken the lead by signing him.
They state that Wolves could still bid for the Ecuadorian, but their poor Premier League campaign almost certainly makes everyone doubt a possible signing for 2026.
Who would be your DREAM January signing for Wolves?
Make it realistic!
Do Wolves need an attacking midfielder?
Mercado has seven goals and 11 assists to his name this season. That’s the kind of return that Wolves were given by Matheus Cunha in the last campaign.
Jhon Arias, Fer Lopez, and Mateus Mane can all operate in that roaming role, but the former two just haven’t made much of an impact since moving to Molineux.
Mane’s rise at Wolves could mean the Old Gold don’t look towards an attacking midfielder, but the potential exit of Fer Lopez may change things.
The only risk here for Wolves is that it’s a player with zero experience in the Premier League or England at all, which has completely failed them this season.
