Wolves transfer round-up: Shock potential exit, Matheus Cunha contract update and more

A round-up of all the Wolves transfer news from New Year’s Day including a potential shock exit, an update on Matheus Cunha’s contract and two potential centre-back signings.

Mario Lemina linked with Wolves exit

Mario Lemina has had a rotten 2024/25 campaign despite things starting so brightly for the midfielder.

After winning the Supporters Player of the Season for the 2023/24 campaign, the midfielder was appointed captain.

However, during his time with the armband, he oversaw a massive decline as the club battled a relegation battle.

Lemina was eventually stripped as captain after a brawl vs West Ham at full-time.

Since Vitor Pereira has taken over, the midfielder is yet to play due to an injury but may struggle to return to the starting XI given his form.

As a result, Lemina has now been linked with a move away from Wolves in the January transfer window with Al Shabab interested.

In contrast, Matheus Cunha has easily been Wolves’ best player so far this campaign.

The Brazilian has stood out in every game he has played and has already netted 10 times in the Premier League

Therefore, it is no surprise that clubs are interested in the attacker. Both Arsenal and Man United want to sign Cunha to help bolster their forces.

As a result, Wolves are desperate to secure his future at the Old Gold.

Now, it has been reported that Wolves and Cunha have began talks over a new contract after previous rumours in November.

Wolves centre-back pursuit update

It is common knowledge that Wolves need a centre-back in January.

The club has the joint-worst defence in the Premier League, with the backline costing the Old Gold multiple vital points this season.

Even though this has improved since Pereira’s appointment, it is still clear that the defence is fragile.

Kevin Danso is thought to be one target in mind, however, Wolves may now reignite interest in two centre-backs.

It has been reported that Wolves remain interested in Diego Carlos and Adam Webster, with the former playing for Aston Villa.
