Wolves transfer news: Wolves monitoring Brighton defender Adam Webster

Wolves are reportedly monitoring Brighton defender Adam Webster.

According to CBS journalist Ben Jacobs, Wanderers are looking at the 27-year-old who is also a target for Chelsea.

The Blues have been trying very hard to sign another centre-back after Kalidou Koulibaly.

They have seen multiple bids for Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana rejected.

So they are now apparently looking at Webster of Brighton, whom Chelsea have already done business with once this summer. A couple of weeks ago they signed Marc Cucurella in a big-money deal.

But Chelsea face competition from Wolves according to Jacobs writing for Football Transfers.

Bruno Lage’s side are said to be monitoring the player.

But a deal could be very difficult. Brighton are adamant they’re not going to offload him.

Webster has been at the Amex Stadium since moving there from Bristol City in 2019.

He has developed into a solid centre-half at Premier League level, and has previously been tipped by some to earn an England call-up.

To date he has clocked up 91 appearances for the Seagulls.

The claim comes after Wolves were linked with a move for Galatasaray defender Victor Nelsson.

Adam Webster would be a fantastic signing for Wolves, but it’s not likely

It’s late in the window, and Brighton are surely not going to want to lose Webster, who is a key player for them.

And even if they were willing to sell, the Seagulls have already shown this summer with Cucurella that they are hard negotiators.

Webster would be a cracking addition for Wolves.

He’s physical, good in the air, and also very good on the ball.

Back in January, during a game between Brighton and Chelsea, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher said of Webster on Twitter: “Adam Webster’s passing out from the back, with both feet is better than any other English central defender.”

Never say never, but it would be a major surprise if Wolves pulled this one off.
