Wolves transfer news: Wolves have been monitoring Chuba Akpom

Wolves have reportedly checked on Chuba Akpom ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to TEAMtalk, the club have been impressed with the Middlesbrough striker this season.

And that’s little wonder, because he finished as the Championship’s top goalscorer with 28 goals.

His wonderful season culminated in him being named the Championship Player of the Season.

Inevitably, the 27-year-old has started to attract attention from top-flight clubs. Wolves are keen, but there is also interest from Crystal Palace, Everton, Leicester City and Brentford as well.

Boro are said to value Akpom at around £20 million. The asking price would likely have been quite a bit higher had Boro sealed promotion to the Premier League.

But selling Akpom for that much money would see them make a significant profit on what they paid to sign him from Greek outfit PAOK.

But of course, a transfer link involving Wolves now cannot be written about without mentioned the club’s financial situation.

Wolves have apparently spent so much money recently to the point where there are now some concerns about Financial Fair Play.

Apparently some players will need to be sold in order to balance the books.

It has been suggested Wanderers may not have a great deal of money to play around with this summer, and as such Julen Lopetegui’s future at the club is in a bit of doubt.

Chuba Akpom could be a great signing but £20 million transfers for Wolves may not be possible this summer

Akpom would potentially make for a great addition by Wolves.

But with the claims about FFP, who knows if this is a deal Wolves will be able to do.

But Wolves may be needing a striker, with Raul Jimenez and Diego Costa both expected to leave the club.

Sasa Kalajdzic will be an option again next season. And Fabio Silva will return to Wolves, although he could perhaps head out on loan again.

Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-chan are options to play through the middle, but another natural centre-forward would be ideal.
