Wolves transfer news: Wanderers set to sign Vinicius Souza

Wolves are reportedly set to sign Espanyol star Vinicius ‘Vini’ Souza.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Brazilian midfielder has caught the eye of Wanderers after becoming a standout player on loan at Espanyol.

Souza has apparently become an essential player in Diego Martinez’s side after joining the club from Lommel last summer.

He has featured heavily for the Spanish outfit, starting all but two of their La Liga matches so far this term.

The 23-year-old had interest from other clubs before his move to Espanyol. But now he has really drawn attention to himself – and Wolves have liked what they have seen.

Wanderers have the player in their sights, and could be helped in their pursuit by Manchester City.

Mundo Deportivo actually make an interesting claim about the two Premier League clubs.

City Football Group actually own Lommel, Souza’s parent club, and City apparently have an agreement in place with Wolves for him to go to Molineux next season. There is no word on whether it would be on loan or permanently. And whether it would be at the start of 2023/24 or midway through.

City appear to be calling the shots over the player.

It is also stated that Espanyol tried to include an option to buy Souza last summer when they got him on loan.

But City did not agree to it, feeling he has potential to move on to better things.

Mundo further state that Souza said recently that he would be happy to continue with Espanyol. But it is not down to him.

A big claim from Mundo Deportivo with Wolves having agreement to sign Vinicius Souza

This is quite the claim from Mundo Deportivo that should perhaps be taken with a pinch of salt.

It will be interesting to see if there are more reports about Souza in the coming weeks and months.

Wolves could well be losing Ruben Neves in the summer.

Joao Moutinho and Matheus Nunes could also be leaving.

So it’s not out of the question there could be midfield reinforcements, and Vinicius would be an interesting coup.

He’s a defensive minded midfield who thinks Casemiro is the best pivot in the world. He himself has been already compared to the Manchester United star.
