Wolves transfer news: Wanderers set to sign Joao Gomes from Flamengo

Wolves are reportedly set to sign Joao Gomes from Flamengo.

Brazilian journalist Vene Casagrande claimed last night that Wanderers have reached an agreement, and will pay around £15 million.

He then followed that up with a string of tweets. The player has agreed to join, and will travel to England in the next few days.

Apparently, he will be putting pen to paper on a five-year deal at Molineux.

The news comes very much out of the blue.

There haven’t been reports previously about any kind of interest from Wolves in Gomes.

It was reported last week by journalist Rudy Galetti that Newcastle United were keen on the youngster. Liverpool had also been mentioned.

Gomes, 21, is a player with big potential.

He made it into the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A Team of the Year for 2022.

Despite still being so young, Gomes has already clocked up 117 appearances for Flamengo, after making his debut in November 2020. He has scored three goals.

This certainly comes out of the blue.

Prior to the reports from Casagrande, there had been no word about Gomes.

It just goes to show that things are happening quietly and efficiently behind the scenes, and patience is required this month.

Clearly, people are working hard to give Lopetegui the tools he needs.

It will be very interesting to see what happens now with Mario Lemina.

There have been a lot of reports about him coming in from Nice. It’s possible that Lopetegui wants both players, with Lemina obviously already having Premier League experience.
