Wolves transfer news: Wanderers monitoring Donny van de Beek

Wolves are reportedly monitoring Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek.

Wolves are still yet to bring in a new player this summer, having focused on shipping players out first.

Ruben Neves, Conor Coady and Nathan Collins have all departed to bring in just shy of £80 million.

Fans are hoping that there will be news of an incoming or two very soon, especially since pre-season has now commenced.

Julen Lopetegui would have wanted players in by now. But Wolves’ financial situation has been dictating things.

Historically, Wolves have tended to bring in players later in the summer. So hopefully there will be movement soon.

And now there is a new transfer link for fans to sink their teeth into.

Wolves monitoring Donny van de Beek

According to 90min, Wolves are keeping tabs on United’s van de Beek.

van de Beek has been with United since the summer of 2020, joining for £40 million all-in, and at the time of his move he was one of the most promising box-to-box midfielders in Europe.

He had seriously impressed at Ajax.

But since moving to Old Trafford, his career has really stalled.

He has never been a regular at Old Trafford, and it seems United are now ready to offload the player.

A few clubs are taking an interest according to 90min. Wolves like the player, as do Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace and Celtic.

It is also stated that a number of clubs from overseas are keen, such as Sevilla, Nice and Feyenoord.

United would prefer a sale, but a loan could also be approved.

Wolves were actually linked with van de Beek during the 2021/22 season.

Donny van de Beek would be a risk for Wolves given struggles in England

So Wolves are linked with van de Beek, which is an interesting one.

It’s been a shame to see his career stall in the way it has over the last couple of years.

He genuinely looked a serious talent when he left Ajax.

It just hasn’t worked out for him so far in England. You could arguably he hasn’t really been given a proper chance. But he also had a loan spell with Everton and struggled.

Perhaps Julen Lopetegui will see a player there and could be tempted to make a loan swoop.

But arguably, he’s not really a player Wolves need. He’s a number eight or a number 10, and Wolves already have the likes of Daniel Podence (admittedly he could leave), Pablo Sarabia, Matheus Nunes, Joao Gomes, Joe Hodge and Matheus Cunha.
