Wolves transfer news: Wanderers make enquiry over Lucas Ocampos

Wolves are reportedly interested in Lucas Ocampos from Sevilla.

Transfer links have been fairly thin on the ground so far this summer, with the focus seemingly being on Wanderers selling players first.

Ruben Neves has just departed Molineux, joining Al Hilal in a £47 million deal.

That was a really good deal for Wolves.

Nathan Collins could be next, with Brentford apparently keen on the central defender.

But amid talk of player exits, we do now have a new rumour to assess…

Wolves enquire about Lucas Ocampos

According to 90 min, Wolves are now considering Sevilla winger Lucas Ocampos and have made an enquiry over the forward.

The Guardian have also suggested Ocampos is on Wanderers’ radar.

Ocampos is a player Julen Lopetegui obviously knows really well. The Molineux head coach worked with the Argentina international for a few years in Spain.

Ocampos has scored 39 goals in 161 games for Sevilla so far. 34 of those goals came under Lopetegui.

Interestingly, Ocampos is a player that has been linked several times with Wolves, long before Lopetegui arrived at Molineux.

But it could be that he finally makes a move in order to link up with his old manager again.

In recent days Fulham have been strongly linked with a £12.8 million move for the player. But Mundo Deportivo suggest he is not really agitating for a move. He is ‘fine’ where he is, and would only depart if he received a ‘very important offer arrives’.

Lucas Ocampos claim feels a bit strange – Wolves have several wide forwards right now

It is really interested to read about Wolves being in talks with Sevilla over Ocampos.

On the face of it, he is not a player Wolves really need right now.

Currently, Wolves are well stacked for players in the wide areas. Daniel Podence, Hwang Hee-chan, Pedro Neto, Adama Traore (who admittedly does look like he’ll leave) Pablo Sarabia and Chiquinho are all options for the manager.

Furthermore, Matheus Cunha can play out wide, as can Matheus Nunes.

The Coaches’ Voice say of Ocampos that he is a ‘skilled and versatile attacker’. But he does tend to play out wide and can operate as a number 10. Essentially, he is a very similar profile to Sarabia.

Maybe Wolves are planning to lose a couple of these players to accommodate Ocampos.

Lopetegui obviously knows the South American well, so if he does wind up at Molineux then he should of course be backed.
