Wolves are reportedly interested in signing Paul Onuachu from Genk.
According to a report from Punch Sports Extra over the weekend, Wanderers are one of a few clubs keen on the giant centre-forward.
The outlet claims Genk are ready to sell the 28-year-old.
They are looking to bank around £15 million for the star, who has 16 caps for Nigeria.
Genk have apparently reached an agreement to sign Kortrijk forward Faiz Selemani, so it seems they are alrady moving to replace Onuachu.
Punch Sports Extra quote a source as saying: “There have been offers for him but we will sit down and pick the best team for him, the club that will suit his play.”
It is stated in the report that Lazio, Fiorentina, Atletico Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen and Besiktas are all keen to sign him as well as Wolves.
Supposedly, Onuachu is most keen to move to the Premier League or La Liga.
He is quoted as saying: “I love the Premier League a lot and will not mind playing there if the right offer comes. The Spanish League is also good as well but it all depends on what is on the table and if an agreement is reached.”
Onuachu has been with Genk since 2019 and has a very good goalscoring record.
In 112 appearances he has scored 68 times, and also made 10 assists.
In the season before last, he finished as the Belgian First Division A top scorer with 33 goals. He helped Genk with the Belgian Cup and a Champions League spot.
In May 2021, he was named the Jupiler Pro League Footballer of the Year for his contributions.
He is loved at Genk. When he signed his contract back in September, the club wrote of him on their website (via Goal): “Our Nigerian phenomenon made his debut on September 1, 2019, for KRC Genk. In his first season, he scored 10 times, in his second the counter only stopped at a staggering 35 goals.
“It earned him the title of top scorer, and because Paul is much more than a goalscoring machine, he was also voted Professional Footballer of the Year.”
Paul Onuachu would make an exciting addition for Wolves
It would be exciting to see Wolves making a move for Onuachu this summer.
It seems Fabio Silva is set to to join Anderlecht on loan, and so that would surely point to a new centre-forward coming in.
Onuachu’s record at Genk is very good. He clearly has a solid eye for goal.
And he could potential be a really good fit for the Premier League, which is a physical competition.
Onuachu stands at 6ft 7in tall, making him a massive threat in the air.
Wolves put in lots of crosses last season to little effect. Having someone like Onuachu in the box could help the team to become more potent in those situations.
