The Mali international made 34 appearances for Lens in 2021/22, helping the club finish seventh in Ligue 1.

He was a standout performer for Franck Haise’s side, and his displays have not gone unnoticed. The Mirror say he is now set to leave the club in the next transfer window – but it remains to be seen who’ll win the race.

As well as Wolves, Arsenal, Brighton, Crystal Palace and Everton are also keen.

Transfermarkt’s valuation of the player £9 million, but the Mirror suggest that it could take a bid of double that to sign him.

GFFN report Lens could demand around £17 million.

The Mirror also bring some interesting quotes from Seko Fofana on Doucoure. He said: “Cheick knows how to do everything on the pitch. He works in the shadows and, for me, he is very important and is incredibly complete. He’s one of the best players I’ve played with. He knows how to shoot from distance, how to pass, break the lines, dribble and defend.”

Wolves are facing the prospect of heading into the 2022/23 season without Ruben Neves.

After the final game against Liverpool, he suggested it could be his time to move on.

This is an exciting transfer link.

One of the best aspects about Lens in 2021/22 was their midfield, with Fofana and Doucoure regularly impressing .

The more experienced Fofana was the real standout. But it’s clear he really rates his midfield colleague.

Last year, Breaking The Lines ran a very positive feature piece on Doucoure. They said of him: “Cheick Doucouré works incredibly hard, covering large areas of the pitch in both a defensive and attacking sense, but he’s also both technically and mentally very acute.

“His concentration and defensive awareness to proactively disrupt the opposition and retain possession in a simple but highly effective manner make him an incredibly underrated talent emerging from France.”

Potentially, he could make for a very good addition by Wolves.
